Luc Binst
Luc Binst realiseerde een woning met praktijkruimte voor zichzelf. Het is een samenvatting van zijn kunnen, maar is ook te beschouwen als zijn visitekaartje. Het straalt niet alleen overdag maar ook ’s nachts. In deze woning brengt Binst verschillende activiteiten als eten, baden, slapen en leven op een nieuwe wijze bij elkaar.
“We verwachten van onze gebouwen dat ze ons, als een soort psychologisch model, een bruikbaar zelfbeeld voorhouden. Door een gebouw als ‘thuis’ aan te duiden, erkennen we dat het in harmonie is met onze diepste zielenroerselen.”
In zijn boek De architectuur van het geluk betoogt de Engelse filosoof Alain de Botton dat de plek waarop we ons bevinden, een immense impact heeft op wie we zijn. Volgens hem is het de taak van de architectuur om onze capaciteiten en gevoelens te versterken. (de Architect interieur, nummer 21, 2006, p22-25.)
Luc Binst realized a house with office space for himself. It's a summary of his abilities, but also as considering as his calling card. It radiates not only during the day but also at night. in this house Binst brings various activities such as eating, bathing, sleeping ans living in a new way together.
"We expect from our buildings that they, as a kind of a psychological model, keep us a useful self-image. A house indicate as 'home', we recognize that it is in harmony with our deepest emotions."
In his book The architecture of happiness maitains the English philosopher Alain de Botton that the place in which we find ourself, has a huge impact on who we are. According to him is the task of the architect to strengthen our capabilities and feelings. (The architect interior, number 21, 2006, p22-25.)
“Ontwerpen is als een partituur schrijven. Alles moet kloppen,” meent de toparchitect.
De jury die de prijs mocht uitreiken, keek vooral naar de hoge afwerkingsgraad, het innovatieve concept, de doorgedreven detaillering en de bijzondere materiaalkeuze.
“Voor een perfectionist zoals ik is het fantastisch om die prijs te mogen ontvangen,” vertelt een enthousiaste Luc Binst. “Het is een schitterende erkenning van mijn werk.”
Het strak ontworpen huis met grote ramen is een architecturale parel in het Grimbergse decor. Zelf omschrijft Luc Binst het als een neutrale box in het groene landschap. De gevels zijn inderdaad sober en neutraal, maar dankzij de grote ramen en het bijzondere ontwerp wordt uw blik hoe dan ook naar dit huis toe getrokken. De grote ramen zorgen ervoor dat u een glimp van het interieur kunt opvangen, dat op een naadloze manier met het exterieur verbonden is.
“Een huis ontwerpen is voor mij echt een kunstwerk maken”, legt de architect uit. “Alles moet tot in de details kloppen, en de binnen- en buitenkant moeten één perfect geheel zijn. Het huis moet een verhaal zijn dat van begin tot einde klopt. Net zoals bij een kunstwerk mogen er geen dingen zijn die je nog moet toevoegen of die je wilt wegnemen. Elk element is speciaal voor dit huis uitgezocht en draagt bij tot het geheel.” Elke ruimte is belangrijk
Elke muur en elk meubel, elke kleur en elk materiaal: alle elementen zijn volgens Luc Binst belangrijk voor het eindresultaat.
“Het klinkt mij altijd een beetje vreemd in de oren als ik iemand hoor vertellen dat de keuken bijvoorbeeld de Porsche van het huis is. Die mensen spenderen enorme bedragen aan één ruimte in hun woning. Alsof de rest van het huis niet zo belangrijk is! Ik vind het net essentieel om te investeren in een oerdegelijke basisstructuur, zodat het hele huis goed is afgewerkt. Op die manier zijn alle ruimtes op elkaar afgestemd.”
"Design is like writing a score. Everything has to be right, "says the architect. The jury was allowed to award the prize, focused mainly in the high standard of finishgrade, the innovative concept, the extensive detailing and special materials.
"For a perfectionist like me, it's fantastic to receive that price," says an enthusiastic Luc Binst. "It is a wonderful recognition of my work."
The tight designed home with large windows is a architectural gem in the Grimbergen decor. Luc Binst himself describes the house as a neutral box in the green countryside. The facades are indeed sober and neutral, but thanks to the large windows and the special design will your graze anyway be drawn to this house. The large windows allow you to capture a glimpse of the interior, which is connected in a seamless manner with the exterior.
"Design a house is truly making a work of art to me," explains the architect. "Everything has to be right in every detail, and inside and outside should form a whole. The house has to be a story that makes sense from beginning to end. Just like a work of art there may not be a thing you want to add or reform. Each element is specially selected for this house and contributes to the whole. "Every space is important. Every wall and every piece of furniture, every color and every material: all elements are important for the final result reconding to Luc Binst.
"It always sounds a little strange to me when I hear someone telling that the kitchen for example is the Porsche of the house. These people spend huge amounts on one room in their house. Like the rest isn't that important! I just think it's just as essential to invest in an extremely solid structure, so that the whole house is well finished. In this way, all areas are matches to each other."
Zijn eigen woning is natuurlijk lang niet het eerste huis dat Luc Binst uittekende en ontwierp. Met de tijd heeft hij een herkenbare eigen stijl ontwikkeld. Hij leerde om met creatieve elementen te spelen, en dat zien we nu sterk terug in zijn eigen woning.
“Door de jaren heen ben ik bijvoorbeeld veel met contrasten gaan werken”, vertelt hij. “Een woning moet pit en karakter hebben, en dat bereik je onder meer met contrasten. In mijn huis heb ik bijvoorbeeld veel zwart-wit gebruikt.”
Naast die combinatie van zwart en wit duikt ook overal een opvallend, helder blauw op dat scherp afsteekt tegen de neutrale tinten. Zelf noemt Luc Binst het fuchsiablauw. Het is gebaseerd op de fantastische kleur van de vermaarde Blue Bench van Maarten Van Severen.
“Ik ben een enorme fan van zijn werk. In het huis dat vroeger op deze grond stond, heb ik hem zelfs eens mogen ontvangen. Het blauw is een knipoog naar zijn bezoek en mijn respect voor zijn oeuvre! De Blue Bench zelf heb ik niet gekocht, omdat je ze tegenwoordig echt overal ziet opduiken. Maar ik heb hier wel een tafel met stoelen en een kast uit zijn collectie staan.”
Ook heel typerend voor het werk van deze architect, zijn het perspectief en de ruimtelijke werking van zijn ontwerpen. Dat merkt u ook in dit huis: het visuele aspect speelt een opvallend grote rol. Alle ruimtes zijn visueel met elkaar verbonden, afgebakende kamers zoals in een traditionele woning vind je hier niet.
“Transparantie is hier heel belangrijk, ik hou er niet van om een huis op te delen in aparte ruimtes. Ik werk ook altijd naar een maximale flexibiliteit. Als er veranderingen opduiken in de levensstijl of gezinssituatie, moet je het huis daaraan kunnen aanpassen. Zo moet het bijvoorbeeld mogelijk zijn om op een relatief eenvoudige manier extra binnenmuren op te trekken.”

Next to the combination of black and white also a striking, bright blue occurs everywhere against the neutral tones. Luc Binst himself calls it the fuchsia blue. It is based on the fantastic color of the renowned Blue Bench of Maarten Van Severen.
"I'm a huge fan of his work. In the house that once was build on this ground, I received him. The Blue Bench itself I didn't bought, because nowadays you can find them everywhere. But I have a table with chairs and a cupboars here from his collection."
Also very typiscal for the work of this architect, are the spatial effects and the spatial operation of his designs. This can be sensed in this house: the visual aspect plays a remarkably large role. All rooms are visually connected with each other, you won't find delimited rooms as in a traditional house here.
"Transparency is very important here, I do not like to divide a house into separate areas. I also work for maximum flexibility. If there appear changes in lifestyle or family situation, you have to be able to customize the house thereto. For example it must be possible to pull up extra interior walls in a relatively simple way."

Deze architect heeft een flinke boon voor abstractie, en ook dat zien we terug in zijn privé-woning. Aan één van de gevels hangen bijvoorbeeld twee grote panelen met abstracte mensenfiguren.
“Die staan symbool voor de kinderkamers die we hier waarschijnlijk ooit maken”, legt hij uit. “Het bovenverdiep waartegen de panelen hangen, is nu nog een grote, open ruimte. Later wil ik er binnenmuren in plaatsen om er kinderkamers in onder te brengen. Een mooi voorbeeld van de flexibiliteit van deze woning.”
Dit soort speelse elementen zijn voor Luc Binst heel belangrijk. In combinatie met de sterke contrasten, ruimte en flexibiliteit geven ze een woning extra dynamiek en karakter. Het resultaat is een bijzondere woning die perfect aansluit bij de persoonlijkheid van de architect.
“Ik vergelijk het met een partituur schrijven: je zoekt naar de juiste noten tot die allemaal bij elkaar horen en in elkaar overgaan. Zo gaat het ook met een huis ontwerpen: de muren, de kleuren, de ramen, de meubels,... alle onderdelen zijn noten die elkaar ondersteunen. En zoals je aan muziek moet wennen en een nieuw nummer een aantal keer moet horen, zo gaat het ook met een huis. Het duurt enkele weken eer je eraan gewend bent maar als het goed is, voel je je er daarna helemaal in thuis.”
This architect has a huge intresse for abstraction, and also that is reflected in his private residence. For example on one of the walls hang two large panels with abstract human figures.
"They symbolize the children's rooms we are probably ever going to make," he explains. "The upper floor which the panels hang, is now still a large, open space. Later I want to place interior walls in there to accommodate a children's room. A good example of the flexibility of this house."
This kind of playful elements are very important for Luc Binst. In combination with the strong contrasts, space and flexibility they give a home additional dynamics and character. The result is a special property that fits perfectly with the personality of the architect.
"I compare it with writing a score: you search for the right notes 'till they all belong together and merge into each other. Likewise with designing a house: the walls, the colors, the windows, the furniture, ... all elements are supporting each other. And also as you have to get used to music and you have to hear a new song a few times, so it is with a house. It takes several weeks before you get used to it but if it's good, you feel completely home there. "
